Biography:
A native of Lubbock, TX, Dr. Crisler holds a BS in History from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX. He received his Master of Divinity in Biblical Languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX, and his Ph.D. in New Testament Studies from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.
Dr. Crisler is married to Kelley, and they have five children—Silas, Taylee, Titus, Annalee, and Cross. Kelley works at home and holds a degree in speech pathology from Hardin-Simmons University.
Dr. Crisler’s dissertation is entitled Lament in Romans: Promise, Suffering and the Cry of Distress. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society. His research interests include: Pauline Studies, the Death of Christ, NT use of the OT, OT/NT apocryphal books, and theme of suffering in the biblical text. Dr. Crisler also served as a pastor before coming to Anderson University.
Personal Narrative:
My goal in ministry is to do all things on account of the gospel (1 Cor 9:23). Therefore, my teaching in the classroom and the local church is propelled by the grand truth that Jesus has been crucified and risen. It is my ambition to show how all the bible, all of ministry, and all of life is summed up in the crucified and risen Christ. I hope to pass on to my students a passion for God’s word which is thoroughly gospel-centered and contains the wisdom which leads to salvation.
