The mission of the Graduate School of Christian Ministry is to equip God-called leaders for transforming service in the church and in the world.
The Master of Ministry degree provides a solid foundation for ministry service by focusing on the core competencies of pastoral ministry. As a basic theological degree, the M.Min. provides a solid foundation of biblical and theological study. The program emphasizes practical ministry training, with a particular emphasis on leadership in ministry – nearly 20 percent of the degree is in leadership training. Students also gain valuable training in areas such as communication and preaching, evangelism and church health, and pastoral ministry.
A valuable part of the M.Min. is the Ministry Project completed during the final year of study. Students will identify a ministry need or opportunity in their own setting, research that area, plan and carry out a project designed to meet that need, and do an evaluation following the project. Each student will present the results of his or her project during the capstone course in the program, Ministry in the 21st Century.
The degree program will be appropriate for a variety of persons, including:
- Persons already in ministry who are ready for advanced study
- Persons entering ministry who seek an effective preparation for hands-on ministry service
- Lay leaders who seek to significantly enhance their effectiveness in serving the Kingdom.
Program Overview
The Master of Ministry is a 42-hour degree program which is offered via two delivery modes: classroom and online. The program is designed to be convenient for persons who are already employed full-time and seek graduate education in a more accessible format and schedule.
The online courses are offered in five eight-week terms through the year. Each week, students view 2-3 hours of video content (delivered via video streaming online). Once a week, students meet with the professor in an interactive online session (via webcam). Students may take one or two courses per term, completing the program in two to three years.
The classroom courses are offered in four eight-week terms (two in the fall, two in the spring), with classes meeting one night per week for 3-4 hours per evening. There is also a four-week May Term, and two one-week Intensive courses offered in the summer. The degree can be earned within a two-year period for students attending one course during each term.
Students have the opportunity to mix delivery modes, taking some courses online and others on campus, based on their own needs and schedule.
